Description

As a youngster, it was impressed upon Tony Conjugacion that an art form, a tradition, or wisdom itself only lives when it is being shared. In the act of sharing , a practitioner communicates to their audience their deep and abiding love of their craft. This was a deeply impactful sentiment. It motivated Tony to attain mastery in Hawaiian music and dance, which subsequently gave birth to an idea. The promise of this idea is The Lamaku Society and Halau Na Wainohia’s semi-annual concert: Kamau Pono.

Kamau Pono is the event that invites the public to share in what The Lamaku Society values the most, and what it fights to preserve: The Hawaiian Culture. It’s name implies a sense of perseverance, with a mindfulness towards the responsible stewardship of cultural tradition. In this, the act of performance - of dancing, chanting, singing, and enjoying the fellowship of an evening - becomes a way to turn Hawaiiana into a celebration of life.

Kāmau Pono XX: “Iwakālua”, an evening celebrating 20 years of hula, family, and tradition.
